The Truful-Truful Canyon is a natural wonder in Conguillío National Park, in Chile's Araucanía Region. Formed by the Truful-Truful River, it is an impressive sight where the water has carved deep walls into the volcanic rock, revealing Llaima's eruptions in different shades of ash and creating a landscape of great beauty and mystery.

Features of the Truful-Truful Canyon
- Truful-Truful waterfall: one of the canyon's main attractions is this waterfall, where the river drops in several tiers over lava formations left by past eruptions of Llaima Volcano. The fall, about 20 meters high, is a fascinating sight, especially in spring and summer when the flow is higher. Its name, of Mapuche origin, means "falling continuously", reflecting the constant flow of water here.
- Volcanic landscapes: the lava and volcanic ash formations around the canyon clearly show the area's volcanic activity. Eroded by time and water, these rocks give the canyon a dramatic, unique look that draws photographers and nature lovers.
- Interpretive trail: marked trails run along the canyon and the waterfall, letting you explore and learn about local plants and wildlife. The interpretive trail is ideal for learning about the geology and ecology of the Araucanía Andina, including araucaria and coigüe forests and native animals such as the Magellanic woodpecker and the South American gray fox (zorro chilla).
- Viewpoints: several well-placed viewpoints let you admire the depth of the canyon and the waterfall from different angles, with panoramic views of the surroundings and the majestic Llaima Volcano in the background.
- Connection with Mapuche culture: the Truful-Truful River and its canyon have special meaning for the Mapuche people, who see water as a source of life and a symbol of sacred nature. Visiting this place lets you enjoy a unique landscape and connect with the spiritual value the Mapuche community gives these natural elements.
The Truful-Truful waterfall
The waterfall is in the municipality of Melipeuco, inside Conguillío National Park. The Truful-Truful River starts on the slopes of Llaima volcano and forms the waterfall as it flows down an old lava flow; the minerals it carries give the water a distinctive color. It is reached on short trails among araucarias and coigües, ideal for birdwatching and photography.
The Truful-Truful Canyon is, without a doubt, a magical corner of the Araucanía Andina that invites you to reflect on the power of nature and the importance of protecting it.
