On Cuesta Las Raíces, among hills and ancient araucaria forests, lies Arenales Mountain Center (Centro de Montaña Arenales), in the municipality of Lonquimay.
Arenales Mountain Center was completely destroyed by a fire in 2021, but tourist activities are still offered in the area to enjoy the nature of the Araucanía Andina.

Arenales Mountain Center is on route R-89, which links Lonquimay with Malalcahuello. In winter the road is covered in snow, and it stays open only from Lonquimay up to the mountain center. It is ideal for snowboarding, skiing, ski touring and snowshoeing.

With a two-wheel-drive vehicle, use snow chains on days after snowfall, and let the mountain center know you are coming.

Tips
